Consultation Day: 14 Nov
Come talk with us! On Thursday 14 November Open Culture will be working from Constellations in the Baltic Triangle between 10am—3pm and you’re invited to come along and have a 1-2-1 chat with one of our team.
Whether you’re interested in being part of LightNight, want to give us your ideas or feedback or just fancy a quick catch up with us please come along. Alternatively, you can be in touch via firstname.lastname@example.org
The next edition of LightNight will be themed ‘Home’ and will take place on Friday 15 May 2020.
We’re now looking for artists and venues to be part of next year’s festival, across two programme strands:
1. Programming & Late Openings (In-kind) – this is for artists, community groups and arts/heritage organisations and venues to be part of LightNight. For more, read the full brief here.
You should then fill in the short online form here.
The deadline for in-kind proposals is 19 December 2019.
2. Artist Commissions (Paid) – the commissions are for artists or collectives to apply for funds to create new works or activities to be presented on LightNight. For more information about commissions, click here.
PLEASE NOTE: commissions applications for the 2020 festival are now closed.
Theme – ‘Home’
Home is many things; a planet, a city, a village, a building, a body. Outside of the physical, home is a community, a feeling, a memory, a familiarity; it’s the place from where we reach out, to understand one another and create a community where we can all belong.
Home is a sense of belonging. Social ties made through family, work, friends, religion or culture give you a sense of connection to others, where you are valued and cared for. But with homelessness rising, people around the world displaced and forced to seek refuge in strange, hostile geographies, and barriers to belonging thrown up in the shape of discrimination based on religion, disability, gender, sexuality or mental health – where and how do we find our home?
On LightNight our volunteer team works on events, serves as front-of-house for our audiences, sells merchandise and helps us gather information to evaluate the festival.
If you’re looking to gain experience working in the arts and fancy being the public face of LightNight, sign up to our volunteering mailing list here (check ‘volunteer opportunities’) and we’ll be in touch in due course.
We are keen that LightNight should not rely solely on funding, and have a variety of supporters including members of the public, funding bodies and commercial partners and sponsors.
If you are interested in supporting the festival financially, or through in-kind services or goods please get in touch to see how we can work together.
