LightNight Liverpool Festival Paused

A message from Open Culture….

After much thought and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to continue the pause of LightNight.

We’ve all been experiencing challenging uncertainties since the pandemic began, and in some cases, it’s made returning to what we class as ‘normal’ as not possible.

Our aim with the pause is to look carefully at whether a festival of this scale can be sustainable and sustained in our ever-evolving world, whilst also considering the health and well-being of the tiny team that made LightNight happen each year. We feel it’s more important than ever to take time to plan for the future of Open Culture and our series of events and activities.

We have been incredibly lucky to partner with thousands of fantastic artists, creatives and organisations since LightNight began in 2010, you really did help power our vision.

We are so grateful to the audiences who visited, participated, danced, sang, laughed and cried at the thousands of LightNight events over the years, you’ve all helped to shape and create LightNight and the impact it has had on the ever-developing arts scene in the region and beyond. It’s been a wonderful whirlwind to date, so please take a minute to look back at the videos and photo gallery to be whisked back into all that fun and see if you can spot yourself!

We are of course immensely thankful to the LightNight funders, sponsors and regular donors; Arts Council England, Liverpool City Council through Culture Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool BID Company.

It’s also hard to put into words how grateful we are really to the wider team of outstanding freelancers, hardworking volunteers, valued Steering Group, ever creative design and web team, incomparable film crew, exceptional photographers, the hardcore vintage bus crew and many many more. Everyone who helped shape LightNight into such a beautiful event for the city – you know who you are – we thank you!

BUT don’t be too saddened by this news – have you heard about one of our other free creative community interest projects Uncoverliverpool.com? It’s a little like LightNight but all year-round.
